Higashi Fine Jewelry Marks the End of
A Successful 20-Year Business in Lemoyne
Bids Customers & Community a Grateful Farewell
with Spectacular Going Out of Business Sale Starting April 23
Lemoyne, PA April 22, 2019 – Higashi Fine Jewelry has served the greater Harrisburg area for 20 years helping fashionistas and gift givers find the perfect jewel for any occasion. But with the retirement of owner Susan Fotos, the jeweler will be bidding its customers a grateful farewell with a spectacular going out of business sale, starting April 23.
Situated on the upper level of the popular West Shore Farmer’s Market, Higashi Fine Jewelry is known as a destination in the Susquehanna Valley to discover special curated jewelry from around the world. Fotos started Higashi in 1999, after falling in love with cultured pearls while living in Tokyo with her husband. When they moved to Central Pennsylvania, she brought with her a newfound passion for exotic pearls, the likes of which this area had never seen. And, the market responded, inspiring this boutique-style jeweler to expand three times to offer an eclectic mix of jewelry, gifts and accessories.
Leaving a career as a counselor to open her business, Fotos did not come from a jewelry family or background, which she says was likely an asset. “In retrospect, it’s much easier when you start something brand new, because you really don’t know the rules.” Her quest for great design she has taken her all over the world to the most innovative jewelry exhibitions to discover new styles that fit the lifestyles of her customers.
Part of Higashi’s charm is its proximity to the farmer’s market, a hub of social activity. When you’re in the market you have to stop in to Higashi to see what’s new, things you can find only there. A destination for discovery, Fotos describes the atmosphere as warm and inviting, comfortable and conversational, with light jazz playing in the background.
She remarks on the many wonderful customers that have become her friends over the years. “The most humbling and gratifying aspect of the experience has been to be a part of helping customers mark some of their most treasured memories.”
Higashi Fine Jewelry has supported a variety of charities and projects in a community that has been so loyal over the past 20 years. One initiative that Fotos is most proud of was Higashi’s involvement in developing the YWCA of Harrisburg’s “Power of Style” Fashion Show, with the proceeds benefitting domestic violence prevention.
Giving up the long work days and weeks that come with retail, Fotos is eager to have more time in retirement for community service and her two grand kids. Since her sister passed away two years ago, at the age of 65, more mindful adventures are calling her now.
Bittersweet, she’s eager to celebrate with friends, old and new at Higashi Fine Jewelry’s going out of business sale. There will be significant savings on high-quality diamond and gemstone, engagement and fashion jewelry. “We are grateful for our customers’ patronage over the years and thrilled to be able to offer this merchandise to the community for such extraordinary value.”
